Hundreds of bodies flock into SAIT’s Stan Grad building, finding their future.

Some hold steadfast ideas about who they want to be, learning more about their careers. Others, unsure about who they are.

Cooper Wiltse is a Grade 12, Fish Creek student. Following his father's footsteps, Wiltse came to SAIT’s open house to learn more about electrical engineering.

“My dad is an electrician, so I’ve always had lots of stuff to do with electricity,” said Wiltse

For Wiltse, the main selling point going to SAIT was its culture.

“The atmosphere, it’s a lot more relaxed than other colleges,” said Wiltse

Like Wiltse, hundreds of students attended SAIT for the open house event, housed in the Stan Grad building on March. 8, 2025. The event is hosted twice yearly, once in October, and the other in March.

For many lookers, Wiltse's confidence of knowing what to be is a foreign concept.

Lexxi Barry is a Grade 11 Bentley High School student. She came to the open house for SAIT’s medical program but is open to other career paths. Unsure of what she likes.

“I’m all over the place. I’m set on one thing. But I kind of think it’ll keep going. I have a lot of different things that I want to be.”

Barry has narrowed down two career paths she’s most interested in.

“I'm kind of looking around for nursing, but I really like the architecture, keep my eyes out for both."

Like Barry, many students attending the open house have no clue what they want to be.

Holding a dozen pamphlets, A lost look on her face, walking to every booth at Stan Grad is Mira Kurkula.

Mira Kurkula is a Grade 11  student at STEM Innovation. She, like Barry, is trying to nail down her future job.

“I’m just not sure where I want to be in the future.” Kurkula said, “Maybe like software development or something in the system section. I also found some interesting stuff in the engineering sections.”

Trying to find something that calls her name, Olivia Hasselman longingly looks to the school of construction as salvation.

Hasselman went to SAIT before. She was in a business program, graduating three years ago.

“I’m here to figure out what’s on here and figure out what I want to do.”

The reason for her change was wanting to do something more interesting in her life.

“Not really wanting to be working in that area and working at a desk for the rest of my life,” said Hasselman.
