New look for AHS

On Jan. 31, the Alberta government announced the restructuring of the AHS body. AHS will be split into four different parts; Recovery Alberta, Primary Care Alberta, Acute Care Alberta and Assisted Living Alberta. The Alberta Government says that the reconstruction will provide Albertans with better healthcare
For the second time, all bored members have been removed from their positions in the AHS. They will be replaced by interim president Andre Tremblay.
"Alberta’s government needs to remain responsive to the health system and the needs of Albertans who continue to access the care they need every day.", said in their press release.
The Alberta Medical Association reports that 650,000 Albertans do not have a family doctor. In an article, the association says many doctors feel burnt out in practice, overworked, and underpaid.
The NDP of Alberta outlines its solutions for "fixing the health care crisis" in its party platform.
- Offer signing bonuses of up to $10,000 to attract doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals
- Create up to 10,000 new post-secondary spaces specific to healthcare and related fields over the next four years
- Ensure compensation and working models are competitive with those in other provinces.
- Offer incentives to work in rural and remote communities
However, Alberta NDP leader Naheed Nenshi has not commented.
