About Me
I'm Aldin Avdic, a 19-year-old, born and raised in blue sky city, Calgary.
currently working as an independent journalist.
I want to take a moment with you and tell you why I chose to be a journalist.
Journalism isn't just a job. It's a passion. For me the core of being a journalist isn't about writing or taking photos, it's about being interested in the people you talk to and wanting the world to hear their stories.
That's what separates us from other forms of writing.
What made me want to become a journalist is my belief in telling the stories never heard. I've had such a great time interviewing people about their daily lives. From just a one-man hot dog stand to a locally owned diner chain, their stories are what makes the city of Calgary unique.
Be your journalist in your life. Take a moment to talk to someone you don't know, go to a family restaurant and ask them what made them open up their store. Be engaged with your community and see what's going on. You'll be amazed by what stories you can hear. Maybe you'll even want to become a journalist one day.
So then, to all who read I pose a challenge to you, go outside and talk to a stranger, ask questions about your surroundings. Who knows, maybe you'll be a Pulitzer Prize winner.
